Great work Roel!

With this update you are officially ahead of my project...

Naaah...can't imagine that 😉

Hey Roel,

Great looking work!  I have been away on a short vacation and now looking forward to getting back to work myself!  I know the feeling of finding a path.  Sometimes that is the hardest part, finding the path to take that works and prove it works before you get too far down that path.  Some of us are still fine tuning that path.

Looking forward to seeing more photos and progress.

The MIP progress is going well.
I have decided to divide the center display in two 10" lcd screens.
This way i do not have to modify my announciator panel which has comnnectors sticking aout of the back.
I ordered them from aliexpress , i used a 5" before so hoped the 10" would be of the same quality.
And this sure is the fact, nice screen and the even come with a remote control!
They only cost $40 each shipping included.
So wooden MIP parts are finished too.
15" LCD screens came out of my Boeing project, i made the brackets for these so that i can slightly adjust the position so they fit well.
All and all i am satisfied so far.

Hi Roel,

I saw this post a few days ago but did not have time to comment on it then.  I wanted to ask you about your 15 inch LCD monitors.  They look like 17 inch LCD screens.  Double check by measuring diagonally.

You are right!
they are 17”!!

just tried to fit it all in the shell...it does seem to fit...after some tetrissing  😆
My mip was mounted onto the raised floor, so again i am deviating from Ron’s blueprints...

more pics will follow...

Hey Roel,

Okay, now we are all on the same page with 17 inch monitors.  As you have discovered, they will fit and you will be able to use them and get 100% of your display units.

The problem that your will have down the road is if you ever want to use real Davtron Clocks.  Most of us use real Davtron clocks and they are very easy to interface into the sim.  You will also have to forfeit the GPWS indicators, or do something really special to make it look like they are there.  Those I am not as concerned about for you, because I think you can still make them work with a little effort.  The Davtron clocks on the other hand, you will want some day!

Check out placed like eBay and search for "15 inch LCD monitor".

You will find used LCD monitors for as little as $15 each.

Like this used one:

Or this NEW one:

I did not realize that the 15 standard screen LCD screen is coming back!  For about 10 years, no one made them and we had no options but used 15 inch screens.

You have only taken a few steps down the 17 inch LCD screen path, so it will not be a big deal to back track a little.  I just want to try to help you avoid issues where others have ran into this problem in the past.  I hope this information helps!

With the davtron clocks you mean the clocks on the outer side of the mip?

i dont quite understand where you want to use the 15” screen??

Hey Roel, yes, the Davtron clocks are on the outer sides of the MIP.   One is just left of DU1 and the other is just right of DU4.  Take a look at the Davtron clock thread.  You will quickly see that the 17 inch monitors will not allow you to use real clocks in the future.

HANGAR 45 FORUM

The 15 inch standard LCD screens are for the two DUs on the left and the two DUs on the right.  We are currently using a 15 inch wide-view LCD screen in portrait mode for the center BUT, we have plans to do something different there.  We want to use a smaller LCD screen like you are using for the RMUs and possibly mechanical gauges for the standby gauges above.  But if that does not work, we will be doing exactly what you are doing for the center screens.

Take a close look at my thread particularly post #3 and #4.  There are a lot of photos of the MIP with the 15 inch LCDs in it and the display units on top of the MIP.  Keep in mind that it looks like the 15 inch LCDs are not big enough but once you put the DUs in on top of the MIP with the black paper bezel, it covers the metal sides of the LCD screens.  You can see photos of that in those two post also:

Let me know if you have any questions.

You are right, when using the genuine clocks it is a tight fit!

i was planning to use lcd displays which i can interface with mobiflight.

but will think it all over.

thanks for the tips!

I have been working on my yoke columns.

Fortunatly i was able to take over some parts from Ron Pater's project.

So Pitching mechanism en PVC parts are allready in place.

I discovered the material poplar plywood.

Never seen it , but a local hardware store sells it, it comes in different sizes.

I used 12mm to produce the yoke housings.

Ron Pater had the plan to use old Saitec yokes and convert them to Learjet yokes.

I am continuing that idea because the do look like a Learjet yoke.

I also had some genuine Boeing 737 yokes, but the are too different i think.

What i also have in stock was a Fokker 50 column, and the map chart is also very similiar to a Learjet one, i only have to paint it black and create a copy somehow .

The poplar plywood parts made with my CNC machine look very smooth and are very strong!

After mounting the actual yoke , the spring construction turned out to be too weak, so i changed this to a stronger spring mounted downwards.
Yokes are centered nicely now.

My Fokker 50 chart holder, comes even with light bulbs and a dimmer !!

I am still waiting for a shipment of parts to create the crossover to the other yoke.
