Roel's Learjet 45 simulator

PreviousPage 2 of 18Next

Looking really good!

From now on make sure to check if you are holding 90 degree angle for both sides between a base and back wall OFTEN, after you finish shaping and sanding and BEFORE and DURING aluminum phase and fiberglass.

Make sure that you scuff aluminum before you install it, with sanding paper to give a foam good surface to grasp and check angles all the time. My shell has a minor forward tilt which forced me to rebuild MIP pedestal and MIP to be flush with C3 wall.

Thanks for the advice!

I believe the back plates are a bit tilted forward too.

What is the best way to get them in a 90 deg angle?

Hey Roel,

If you have a large square, that is your best bet.  Otherwise use a couple pieces of wood that you know is square and temporarily mount them to the rear wall and to F3.  As Maciej pointed out, until you get your shell fiberglassed in or finished with whatever material you will be using, this is an issue you need to keep an eye on.  It is easy to address early on, but hard to fix after everything is LOCKED in.

Ah ok clear.

good tip

thanks!

The joy of not being one of the first builders . . . you get to learn from others mistakes!  My shell is slightly off at the bulkhead.  Nobody has ever noticed as fortunately it is concealed behind the MIP and did not cause any major issues.   🙂

This weekend I made a 6 hour drive to the Schwarzwald in Germany to pick up a MIP and pedestal which I bought from a guy i met on Facebook.  Not all parts are there, but most of them are, and this offers me a good base to create the missing panels.

The parts are all from Simparts.de , they don't produce Lear parts anymore , except switches which are pretty expensive is see on the site.
The quality is very good, all steel  and all panels are backlighted!
The MIP fits well in my shell (which is almost ready to paint)

Hey Roel,

And just like that you have the bones of a Lear45 simulator!  Such a great start in such a short period of time.  As for the missing panels, I am working on ALL the panel drawings and will have them available by summer 2019.  So stay focused on the shell and get it finished.  Within this project you can easily get distracted and the shell may not get completed for years because you are having so much fun with all the other cool stuff.  Looking good Roel!

Yes, the shell is my primary focus, you are absolutely right!

it is is growing very well.

i like working on it very well.

but this was a great opportunity, couldn’t let it go 😃

Looking great.

I flew for a few years with just the MIP and Pedestal and it was great......but........once the shell was completed, it was a completely different experience flying inside it.

Yes you are right Mark

I also flew like that with my b737, since i moved to a new house and have no room for an entire shell , i switched to the Lear 45
The feeling of really sitting inside a sim is much more realistic.!
