TSS Audio Environment – Airliner Edition Lear45

(Original thread started on 04-23-09 by Dave Ault)

I've just switched from using FSX to FS2004 and it's fantastic. No more blurred scenery, good framerate and no jerky graphics but was very disappointed with the sound. I tried Turbine Sound Studios - Cessna Citation PW-JT15D sound pack and the engine noise was a lot better but the other sounds i.e. Flaps, Gears, Warnings were disappointing.

As I also have FSX installed I decided to copy the sound folder from that to the FS2004 Lear45 sound folder and It works perfectly and all sounds are great.

I actually contacted TSS yesterday and put in a request for them to make a Honeywell TFE 731-BR sound set. They may make one some day but for now the P&W set sounds great doesn't it? Everyone should really try those with the buttkicker attached to the base of their simulator as mine is. It's incredible as you start moving down the center line and the rumbles build up. Of course, reverse thrust is great too! It's available at http://secure.simmarket.com/turbine-sound-studios-cessna-citation-pw-jt15d-soundpack.phtml

The TSS sound pack greatly improves the Lear sound, I didn't realize how much until a few days ago, for some reason my computer crashed and the only solution I had was to restore the computer to factory settings and reinstall all my flightsim programs. I tried the Lear with the default FSX sounds and it was very poor sound quality in my opinion, then I reinstalled TSS sound pack, and I immediately noticed a huge difference. I had grown accustomed to the TSS sound pack and forgot what the FSX default sound was like. No doubt worth the upgrade to the TSS sound.

I agree, the TSS sound pack engine sounds are great but overall I prefer running the FSX sounds in FS9 as I think the Gear, Flaps and warning sounds are better and I quite like the engine sound too.  Maybe I need to combine the two.

That is what I did, I modified the TSS sound pack and added some sound files from the default Lear to get a better sound for the gear up/down, flaps, and spoiler sound. Seems the Citation is quieter in these areas than the default L45. I personally like hearing the flaps, spoilers, and gear sounds.

Great news! TSS/Flight1 has just released a new sound pack that replaces the default FSX sounds for several jets including the Lear45. Here is a video, I thought some of you may be interested in it.

Yeah I saw that and almost posted here like you did but ran out of time. I use the TSS Pratt and Whitney sound currently for my FS9 and FSX engine sound but this seems to be really good. I now need to go compare them to video footage of the real aircraft once again to the video that TSS has posted and I may just spring for the package. I'd like to know where/how they got their 'Learjet' sounds from. I'm emailing them now in fact...will report back.

**After looking at the video on YouTube again it does sound really good. I still need to compare it to comparable videos of LJs taking off but I'm much more concerned with the internal sound, which from the video posted sounds awesome. However, my next question is, can it be installed in the FS9 aircraft???

Go to Flight1 and read the complete review of the product. I'm thinking that the sound set uses the cone technology in FSX and if so I don't think FS9 has it. It also appears that you only get the engine sound set, this is no big deal because I combine different sound files together anyway to get the sound I want.

One plus that it does have over the TSS Pratt/Whitney set is that it is made for FSX and if it utilizes the sound cone tech, would probably sound much better in FSX.

I'm in communication with TSS as I write here. The sounds are actually taken from a real Learjet! I am in hopes that a Lear- only soundset will be made available.

Well, good news! If all goes as planned we have a Learjet package coming from Turbine Sound Studios. I spoke with Christopher yesterday back and forth via email and he's working on a FS9/FSX package for us dedicated Learjet folks.

That is great news!  Maybe I will not have to kit bash sound packages together for the Lear with a new release from TSS.

I finally got my surround sound system to work (no sound module driver installed). When running the engines it doesn't sound very real. All I get is a low bass rumble. Is there a Lear engine sound that is more realistic?

Audio Environment Airliner edition has a Lear45 sound package. I am using it and it sounds good. I use it for the engine sounds, other aircraft sounds and a few other cockpit sounds like auto pilot engage/disengage. I did not like the sound of the flaps and gear so I copied the default sound files for those two items back in the sound file.

Also, I got Accu-Feel v.2. This package adds brake squeal and tire chirping when your wheels make contact with the runway. In addition to that, it adds rumble, vibration, thuds and thumps. It has a section of the program called aerodynamic effects which adds things like when your approaching a stall, the airplane begins to shack giving you the sensation that your getting ready to stall acting like a pre warning to the stall.

I am running both of these programs in my sim and they work great.

Survey of what turbine sound packages are you using for P3D?

See there are a couple of options for sound package upgrades for FSX. Has anyone had success using these in P3D?

Yep I've had the TSS package in the past. However with all the upgrades to P3D over the years that is one sound utility I'd forgotten to re install. I suppose what that means is default seems to have been acceptable.

I would have to really wonder just how many people out there would even be experienced enough to tell one small bizjet engine from the next ?

As for Accu Feel, that is one utility that I have religiously adhered to and surprisingly it has so many options to tweak that I do actually change settings occasionally. I do recommend that one.

The other is RAAS. Well worth a look at.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks Mark!  I've downloaded Accu-Feel, but unfortunately its not wanting to install on my Windows 10-64bit system, frustrating but understand how hard it is to get software to install on any random PC configuration flawlessly.   Waiting on tech support to get back to me.
