RMU Utility used with Pokeys Cards

PreviousPage 2 of 3Next

If you have everything going on one PC then you don't need WideClient get involved.

Check you RMU configuration file and see if Com_write_to_sim is set to (ZERO)

Hey Bryant,

I had similar issues.  In my case, I was running three PoKeys56U on a single client computer and I ended up having to move them to separate computers and also changing the names on them.  Additionally, I had an issue with the USB ports where if I had the Pokeys plugged into one USB on the computer it would not work.  I would have to plug it into another USB port on the computer and then it would work.  Or, when I turned the computer back on later, it would not work again and I would have to move it back to the original USB plug on the computer, then it would work again.

So the first thing I would do is try to move the USB plug to another USB port on the computer.  Also, try changing the name of your PoKeys56U to something that you will recognizes, like RMU Pokeys as an example.  If you go with all PoKeys, you will end up running three like myself.  Shane and Mark are also using three if I recall correctly.

This is one of those little things with the project that will drive you nuts, but at least you have us here who have been where you are and can help guide you through these issues.  Let us know if you reach success!

Hey Ron,

I'm going to check my config file to see if it's set to "0", That's one of the things I haven't checked yet.  I know that some USB ports are for Fast Access, and I'l check that too and let you guys know what my results are.  I'm glad you guys are here to help assist me in getting this project off the ground.  I know it's a rather expensive endeavor, but I'm persistent in getting it up and running.  Once I get the DUs and RMUs up and running, I'll let you guys know what all it took for me to get there, and hopefully for future simmers, this will be of great help to them as well.

Hi Bryant,

I feel your pain. The pokeys message you are getting is telling you that windows is not recognizing it through the usb. As Ron has said you need to try these alternatives;

1/ Change USB port

2/ Do not run it through a hub but direct with its own cable.

3/ Try different USB cable

4/ Make sure USB cable is long enough with the least extensions if required

5/ Try different USB cable /hubs /ports versions i.e. USB 2.0 or 3.0

6/ Move pokey to a different computer.

I like Ron have had everything working utilizing the above solutions. Only to find the next time you turn it on that you need to change the USB port again ! Go figure.

I have had a pretty good run for years but this year at least 3 computers have gone haywire. All Win7 computers. That could mean that either the windows updates are starting to create havoc with old hardware, or just that the old motherboards are getting to their use by dates. So far I have kept afloat by adding more individual USB cables to those recalcitrant peripherals which reduces those connected to a hub.

Remember, make Device Manager in Control Panel and ( if using Win7) Devices and Printers in the Start menu a go to, for what Windows sees. Devices and Printers will tell you what is connected. You will see your pokeys connected there. If not, it ain't seen, so you need to change USB slots and possibly reboot.

Keep us informed.

Mark S.

More great points Mark!

Bryant, one other thing that may or may not apply to this current problem you are having.  If you run across something that is not working, try "Run as Administrator".  Several times this simple little thing has resolved a problem for us.  Just put this in your tool box.

Bryant,

I don't know how this would go. Since you have a Pokeys 57/56 E and we told you that the U version is what we are all using would this work ?

It just converts the ethernet signal to a usb and it is cheap. Worth a try !

Mark

Hey Mark,

I had a 57E, I now have a 57U so I have the same pokeys everyone else supposedly have.

Bryant,

I have at least 4 installed so none go to waste.

At least having the U version we can all help out with experience.

I hope to put on our facebook page tomorrow 2 videos of a pokeys going crazy, so keep an eye out for that.

Mark

Has anyone had this error when trying to run Mark's Pokeys RMU Utility?

Windows sees the Pokeys card, and I'm able to run the Pokeys interface utility without any problem, so I know the card is being recognized in Windows 10.  I'm able to go into this utility and assign buttons and pin assignments without any issues.  It just that Mark's utility doesn't see the card and the above error is given.

Hey Bryant,

In an effort to try to help figure out what is happening on your end, I down loaded the PLRmuNoGear program onto my research computer which has nothing to do with my Sim computer.  The install, which gives you no options, automatically put the program here:

C:\Users\Ron Rollo\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\MarkDidIt!

It created a desktop Icon and a shortcut in the start menu.  When I try to start the program, I get the same message as you did but that is expected because I do not have a PoKeys56U installed on this computer.  But when I was trying to take a look at the config file for this program, I noticed that I could not find the AppData file in the path above.  This was due to the way I had my sharing set up for my "Ron Rollo" folder which was set to NONE. (no sharing)

I was able to unlock my "Ron Rollo" file and set it to share with everyone but I am still not able to see the AppData folder which is where I will find the other folders that will lead me to MarkDidIt!  So in my case and I suspect your case as well, you are having a sharing issue.  I can't even find the folder which it is certainly possible that sharing information is also being hampered.

The other issue you could be having is the name of your Pokeys56U is not synced up to what this program is looking for, which was why I was trying to take a look at the config file.  But after 30 minutes of trying to to find the AppData folder, I gave up.  In my case it is a sharing issue for sure.

If all else fails, keep in mind that this RMU Utility is just a tool to help you EASILY set up you PoKeys56U with your RMU hardware.  If it becomes more of a pain in the butt than what it is worth, ditch it and set up your hardware manually.  One less program running in the background.

About two years ago while troubleshooting some issues with the RMU, I uninstalled the RMU Utility and set up the hardware manually to eliminate the possibility that the RMU Utility was causing any issues.  The only thing that came out of that was we were able to confirm that the RMU Utility was not causing any issues, works great as a setup program and does not appear to use a lot of resources as it runs in the background.  But it is another program running in the background that is not necessary.  Set up manually if you can.

Just a FYI, when you getting everything running, there will be as many as 25 programs running all at the same time that are sim related!
