(Original thread started on 05-03-11 by Eric Williams) Some of you may already use this site, but I just found it and it's the best I've seen so far. Check out http://www.fltplan.com/ There are some great planning tools, a great source for charts but the best... Weather. I have not seen another site with such a complete interface for gathering every type of weather information you could want. Winds aloft, PIREPS, Icing, , multiple styles and sources of radar, animated sat, thunderstorms, heights etc etc. All laid out for pilots. You could surf just weather information for an hour easy. You can request just about any information you could ever want and it pops up with complete reports or just click on various maps/radar and it can be clicked to zoom in further etc. Its free too! (Posted by Eric Tomlin on 05-04-11) Yes, very nice site. I'm using it now as I have a (real) trip this morning up to 3.5 hours away to a graduation ceremony. Ive already got a good idea of what I will encounter up and back. It's my sincere hope that more folks take to the actual operational/planning realistic aspects of flying their simulators. It's been refreshing to see that interest in you Eric G. (Posted by Mark L. on 03-21-12) I do some flying with the guys over at It's Your Plane (iyp.com) and some of the guys have been using this flight planner package that has some incredible features! It even connects to FSUIPC on your network and will map you aircraft in flight and basically do almost everything other packages can do. Really impressed with it, might be worth your giving it a look see. Click HERE New features in 2.0: •New Airport viewer •New Approach viewer •Add approach to flight plan •Display Victor Airways •Weather reports without FS connection •Relative wind display •New enhanced native ".PLG" file format with support for cross-references, passing altitudes, notes, approaches etc •Sample plans •Sharable bookmarks •Display KML/KMZ files •New Quick Planner •Route Copy to clipboard for VAs, VATSIM etc •Water runways display •Detachable tool windows for expander panels •Actual times recorded (local or zulu) & can be printed on PLOGs •Spot elevations (with optional DEM installed) •Move aircraft to here function •Many more UI enhancements (Posted by Jaap on 04-04-12) I've been using PlanG for quite a while now. It runs on my laptop in the living room, so I can make my Flightplans in a comfortable environment, with a cup of coffee next to me. http://www.tasoftware.co.uk/planG.htm It's a great program, although sometimes it can be very slow, particularly when searching Intersections. Also I get a lot of Java script errors, but that could be due to something wrong on my laptop. Making a flightplan is easy but in comparison to the (very basic) FS Flightplanner, adding intersections, VOR's etc. is a little more complicated. In FS you just grab the line and drag it to any waypoint you want. In PlanG, grabbing the line is only possible at certain points, which can sometimes be a nuisance. Other than that, it's a great Flightplanner with lots of neat extra's. You should really give it a try.
