Cielosim KJAX Jacksonville International Airport

(Original thread started on 01-03-16 by Justin Fletcher)

I saw today that Cielosim is developing KJAX Jacksonville International Airport for FSX and Prepar3d. I know a few guys here fly out of JAX on sim flights including myself. I spent 2 years working at JAX and the first screenshots look spot on. This will be purchased on Day 1 for me. Pretty Excited! Now if we can get a quality St Augustine, Tallahassee, Panama City, and St. Petersburg all the popular State of Florida airports will be covered.

Oh snap! That's what I am talking about. I'll be the second to purchase this. I have been gearing up these past few weeks trying to get Airport Design Editor up and running with the thought in mind that I am going to have to do it myself. Although Art Poole has a nice KJAX via Avsim and it's freeware. I am currently working on St. Augustine Airport so if nothing else we will have that.

In any case, if you see that it is released before I do, post up here. Thanks Justin for the heads up!

Side thought.....I wonder if they will have runway 8 corrected. FSX and P3D still show it as runway 7.

RWY 07/25 should be corrected to 08/26 and I hope they add the new bypass taxiway on the air carrier ramp that was constructed in 2013. If they build it to reflect the new approach plates and airport diagram it should be a quality add-on.

I have reached out to Alex Ranc at Cielosim in reference to the delayed release of KJAX. He says that they are shooting for a March/April release and they will be updating their website and Facebook with some news and new screen shots.

My hopes are that their new JIA (Jacksonville International Airport) scenery will be released prior to our big Hangar Day so that you guys flying into KJAX can fly the sim in KJAX with the enhanced scenery installed. A big thanks to Alex Ranc and the Cielosim development team for taking this on!

UPDATE 07-11-16:

I have been in touch with Alex Ranc at Cielosim about this. He could not give me a release date but did say that the scenery is in closed beta testing ATM. As long as they are working on it I am happy. I can wait a long time for something really cool!

I saw that Alex put out a few new screen shots a few weeks ago. Man, I have never waited and anticipated a scenery like this before. I really hope it is worth the wait!

UPDATE:

I am still closely monitoring the progress of the Cielosim KJAX software. To say the least I would have thought it would have been released by now but great things come to those who can wait! A few weeks ago, Alex Ranc advised me that the software is in final closed beta testing. I also made a few additional request to be included in his software package if possible. The one I feel I can mention is the addition of the Dames Point Bridge. If you are not familiar with the Jacksonville area, this bridge is a lot like the Sunshine Skyway bridge included with the FlyTampa KTPA software. The Dames Point Bridge is less than ten miles from JIA and is the first thing you see when you are climbing out after taking off from runway 8. Hopefully this will make it in the KJAX software.

Additionally, go to http://www.airdailyx.net/fsnewsbreaker/2016/1/3/cielosim-kjax-first-shot-in-sim and click on the LIKE button. Only 8 likes to date. Lets see if we can push that up a little in support of Cielosim!

I went out, "liked it" and posted an encouraging comment. Maybe you could connect with the guy and offer a day of sim flying for him to be encouraged a little further!

I have been talking to Alex and he keeps saying in a couple weeks which turns into months. Shane had a good point that maybe it is compatibility issues with P3D v3. I would have liked to have had KJAX a year ago and at least before Hangar Day 2016 back in March, along with the ATC program that he is working on. Sooner or later he will pull through for us. If not, sooner or later someone will develop KJAX.

UPDATE:

I have been doing some beta testing of a new product by Cielosim called Live ATC Chatter Pro. Alex Ranc and his team had an earlier version of this software but it only worked with FSX. This new version is designed to work with P3D software and has some new and improved features! While we are waiting for the release of the new version, here is a link to the version that currently works with FSX https://cielosim.com/products/live-atc-chatter/

The program is designed to take advantage of the live ATC streams that you can find at http://www.liveatc.net/

The cool thing about this software by Cielsim is that you can save as many feeds as you want, assign frequencies to those streams and then play them in your sim. So if you are sitting at KJFK, you can tune in and listen to live ATC, ground, tower, departures or approaches. You can literally tune your RMUs to listen to real world ATC chatter! I set my beta version of the software to tune on RMU2. This way my RMU1 COM is still open for Vatsim communications. Also, you can print out your frequency list for easy access. I kept my frequencies the same as the real world frequencies so I can use my Foreflight to look up information and frequencies.

One thing that is not realistic to the real world is that you can tune any active streams no matter where you are in the sim world. At first I was not crazy about the idea of that but the problem is we are bound to what is actually available from http://www.liveatc.net/ at that moment. You might be at KATL and all of their streams are down ATM but you might want to have something chatting in the back ground. So in this case you could tune in KJFK and listen to those streams. Or whatever is your favorite stream for that matter.

This program is not for the "die hard everything has to be by the book kind of guys". However, it is a great program to have if you are entertaining friends or family that don't have in-depth knowledge about aviation. Having this live ATC chatter in the background and being able to tune different frequencies really adds to the environment. Or even if your working on other areas of the sim, it is a cool program to have running to listen to live ATC chatter. As soon as it is available for sale I will let you guys know! Remember, this soon to be released version is for P3D sims.

UPDATE:

Alex Ranc over at Cielosim sent me a few screen shots of the up and coming KJAX airport scenery. Alex says it is nearly ready for release, just working out the final bugs. My thoughts when I first saw these photos was, "Dang this looks good!" I have been in, out and around JKAX for the past 30 years and know this airport inside and out. Alex and his team have left no details out of this scenery package as best as I have seen based on the screen shots I have viewed so far. Take a look at a few of them:

I know these photos are a little difficult to see but trust me, every detail is there! The cool thing about KJAX is that it is a major airport (International) but yet it is small compared to KATL, KDCA, KMIA, KJFK etc... This means that it should not be a frame rate killer. Finally we are going to have access to a highly detailed airport here in Jacksonville and still have very favorable frame rates. I know this is going to be the case based on smaller International airport scenery's like KPNS, KRSW, KMYL etc.... The release of KJAX is just weeks away!

Cielosim has just released KJAX to the public! It is now available for purchase at:

https://cielosim.com/products/jacksonville-international-airport/

Alex Ranc and his team did an incredible job with the Jacksonville International Airport (JIA). No details were left out in this incredible and beautiful addon airport. Being a resident of Jacksonville for the past 30 years, I have been in and out of KJAX many times and know this airport better than most. The attention to detail even inside the terminal is spot on! You have to check out the transparent terminal, incredible work!

The performance is outstanding too! Although I am still running P3D 2.5, I observed how well it ran and am looking forward to upgrading to P3D v3.4 to take full advantage of what KJAX has to offer. Cielosim designed KJAX to run with P3D v3 or higher and FSX. If you are like me and still have P3D v2.5, you can still run KJAX on your system but you may see an artifact here or there. (I will be updating to P3D v3.4 shortly after the new year.)

So if you are looking for a great International airport to fly in and out of with great performance, KJAX by Cielosim is for you. Thank you to Alex and his team for making this a reality for us who have been waiting for Jacksonville to come to life!
