Airfiles and Making the Lj45 “XR” Compliant

(Original thread started on 11-20-08 by Eric Tomlin)

Per, I've tested your airfile and like it a lot, although you've advised on the issue with higher cruise levels on it's pitch being nose high (and I find that an issue too). However, since you've used the program Air Wrench, I was wondering if you think we could increase the Max Gross Take Off Weight and the overall thrust output via that program to make our aircraft 'XR' upgraded.

Take a look at the Lear45 fact sheet HERE

Hello Eric! Hopefully I can do some tweaking to the airfile but I'm not able to start on that until next year. I'll get back to you as soon as I have a new airfile to test. I've been working hard on our cockpit lately and we are about to start building the shell. Before that I have to finish the work on the throttle. I also have to mount a 4th LCD-screen just in front of the throttle. I have made a custom ATC-RMU where the ATC text will be shown + buttons for managing ATC. Also the coming holidays will slow me down a bit. There are fortunately other things in life other than the simulator project.

I've seen on the resource pages that Per Alm worked on a Learjet 45 .AIR file that would improve flying the Lear. It would also fix the too much nose-up effect when flying slow with flaps, which I don't like a lot on localizer level flight.

Is there a final version available somewhere? Does anyone use a tweaked .AIR file? I'm running FSX. I do have a tool for editing AIR files compatible with FSX.

I have a custom made AIR file for my Learjet for FS9. Something I have tweaked over the years. Quite a few things are different most notably the nose is quite low on approach as compared to the standard Lear45 air file. The panel config and the aircraft config file are different as well. I tried Per's file, but my PM MCP didn't like it.

Hey Ronald, you don't need any special tools to change the air file, just open the aircraft.cfg file with "Notepad" and make your changes. Make sure to save it when your done. For the record, I am using FSX.

Here are my settings:

[flight_tuning]

cruise_lift_scalar = 2.0

parasite_drag_scalar = 1.0

induced_drag_scalar = 4.0

elevator_effectiveness = 0.8

aileron_effectiveness = 1.0

rudder_effectiveness = 1.0

pitch_stability = 1.2

roll_stability = 1.0

yaw_stability = 2.0

elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0

aileron_trim_effectiveness = 1.3

rudder_trim_effectiveness = 1.3

Thanks Tom, great info! I will try these settings tonight and fly an approach which I've did a few times before!
