ADF 2 Possibility Discussion

(Original thread started on 06-30-11 by Will Sasse)

I am putting together a test panel for the Pilots Display Controller. This is to retain the controller functionality while using Marks RMU Utility. I have 2 rotary selectors for the 2 bearing selector display options, programmable via the PoKeys card & FSUIPC offsets. Note: the offsets are slightly out on the list, the ADF & NAV offsets were swapped.

The selectors work for Nav displays. I can have two separate VOR's displayed on the EFIS. I can also have ADF 1 & Nav 2 displayed selectively at the same time. The ADF, although the RMU displays one on each, are slaved to each other. A change to one is reflected in the other. I can only select the ADF 1 from rotary selector 1, I cannot bring up a display for ADF 2 on the EFIS at all.

Is there a way to activate ADF 2 as a stand alone selectable ADF which can be selected using the diamond (No 2) BRG selector?

I did find this: http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/archive/index.php/t-211150.html

But it requires a dedicated RMI display, not sure if its applicable to Jet45.

The issue is that ADF 2 doesn't exist in FS typically (by default), or at least not in the LJ45. Now, I have read before and even tried it myself, that you can add a 2nd ADF and I don't believe that someone would have taken the time to document how to do it it it weren't possible (by adding some text in a config file) but it never worked for me personally.

One thing to consider, the 2nd ADF is actually an option on the real LJ45 so it kinda makes it not so bad to not have it in the sim. Also, I confess that I rarely use 1 ADF, let alone ever imagine using 2 simultaneously. Never-the-less, I will see what I find out on the 'net about ADF2 and put it in the consideration list for JET45 in the future.

Thanks Eric, I didn't realize it just wasn't there!! Oh well, would be nice but I'll get used to just having one.

The primary reason I was hoping to activate it is just that is was there, at least I thought it was! Also, normally I fly with the primary Nav-Aid selected as source #1, and the secondary as source #2 - so on the '45 when flying an approach I would have ILS/VOR on #1 and ADF/NDB on #2 (as backup and confirming aid)

And yes, here down-under we still use ADF/NDB for primary navigation & approaches, although it is slowly being replaced by GNSS RNAV. It is still a skill I must demonstrate on my instrument rating renewals. Once again thanks for your reply, perhaps just the addition of a standby frequency on the ADF would be useful and simpler?
