Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

Microsoft is releasing a new version of Flight Simulator in 2020.  I'm not getting to excited about it yet. I still remember the disaster that was Microsoft Flight a few years ago.

It appears it will be offered on gaming platforms like Xbox and a PC version.  No information as to whether it will be compatible with add on scenery or aircraft or whether it will have interface access like FSUIPC.

Maybe they learned something from their last failure but I will take the wait and see attitude.  Personally Microsoft will have to offer a lot as in 3rd party access for development of scenery and aircraft, interface access, and a huge performance increase  to lure me away from P3D.

The trailer and graphics look great!  In a couple places I paused the video to take a close look at the scenery.  Very detailed and graphical.  Weather looks good too!  But like you Shane, I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

If nothing else, having another serious flight sim contender in the picture puts pressure on LM Prepared developers to keep up with or ahead of the pace of progress.  Looking forward to seeing more of this.

I am curious what the price will be?
It does look good, but so does Prepar3D with ORBX and Activesky.

Hi guys,

Looks like MF  2020 might be a viable option.  Looks as if there should be support for full cockpit builders like our group.  Multi views,  third party development, hardware interfacing capability seem to be included which is good news for us.  A couple areas to closely follow is whether a Lear 45 will be included in the new sim and the ability to connect software that we as Lear builders need to bring the flightdeck to life.

Hi,

The price of the basic FS2020 is $59 up to the Premium at $119. The only difference in functionality is the higher you go above Basic is the number of handcrafted airports and aircraft.

There are a number of unresolved issues, however, that are showstoppers.

1. There are many opinions pro and con but no developer answers on multi-monitor support. A major issue for those of us that use multi- monitors.

2. Pete Dawson has not released an official FS2020 FSUIPC. No testing has been done as the developers have not released the new SimConnect.DLL or the SDK except to registered add-on developers such as Orbix. I use FSUIPC and WideConnect. Many of you also if you connect to a second computer to display instruments, add-on ATC, Charts, etc.

This is definitely a concern for us developers.  Pete was quite short in his replies on his forum when he was questioned about FSUIPC for 2020.  It sounded like he didn't have any information on if the same variables would be available or if they even expose the memory like they did previously.

I strongly believe that if they somehow deprecated Simconnect and the UIPC interface, they would replace it with something else.  There is absolutely no way that they would completely remove the ability for 3rd party software to interact with the sim.  They would completely kill any chance of use of MSFS 2020 for pilot training.

Eagerly standing by ready to get it loaded up to see what we have.

Anyone have any updates on the viability of MSFS2020 for our projects, noting that the Learjet is not an aircraft included in the package or by any third party providers (that I'm aware of) ?

Hey Terry,

Not yet as far as I know.  As of this very moment, using P3D and it's latest version is the sure way forward to get the most bang for the buck with our Lear45 project especially if you have a near complete sim to fly like Mark and the guys.

With that said, I am a big fan of FS2020 and hope that a developer takes on the Lear45 sooner than later.  FS2020 is super powerful and the graphics are second to none in my opinion.  I have a stand alone Xbox S Series with joystick and a set of pedals.  I fly it just to keep somewhat up to date with what the new sim is up to.  On top of waiting to see if a Lear45 materializes, we are also waiting to see if FS2020 develops better support for multiple outside views.

I know Jason has been doing some testing with FS2020 but I believe he is using the Citation Jet as the actual aircraft.  The flight parameters are close and we can tweak them.  There are a ton of other issues to overcome going that path, a couple being that the Citation does not have an APU or thrust reversers to name a few.

Another option is to port over the FSX Lear45 into the new FS2020, but that is also problematic.  The reading I have done suggest that "porting over" an aircraft from FSX is a temporary solution for guys who want to fly their favorite aircraft.  I guess the long game plan is that in time, most aircraft will be available one way or the other as an example: included in the "game" ,payware, freeware, high end study and junk.

I have said this before somewhere but I believe when we get a little further along, it will be one of us or a joint effort to create the Lear45 we need.  One thing we don't need is a 3D cockpit but might be helpful to have.

In the meantime, it seems like every other week a developer is coming out with a new aircraft model.  This is a good thing!

Our prospects for a developer aren't as good as they could have been given that Learjet ceased production last year.
