John Travolta 707

Hi all,

A big deal  for us Aussies is coming up in November 2019. John Travolta, who everyone knows, not only as an actor but he is also a qualified Boeing 707 Captain, is donating his aircraft. He has been an Ambassador for QANTAS flying around in his 'Flying Kangaroo' 707 for many years.

I don't know the circumstances of 'why' but he is donating the aircraft to a great little museum in Wollongong, N.S.W., just below Sydney. There is much planning involved, but not only to land on a strip that is not designed for big jets.

In 2015, QANTAS landed one of it's donated 747's also on this strip, so it is doable.

The 747 landing.

Just something different.

That's pretty cool!  John lives right down the road from me (on a world wide scale) in Ocala Florida which is about a 120 minute drive.  I wonder if he is making room for a new toy?

Hi Mark  yes John Travolta is well known by many people, however I wonder how many of them know that he is a member of the church of Scientology and has made literally millions from Scientology same as Tom Cruise and others.   By the way Mark I'm from Melbourne and would like to join some other simmers in Shared Cockpit and fly around and learn and keep learning as much as possible about aviation in general and the specifics of the plane being flown. Please let me know what you think. Cheers

Hi Josepha,

Yes I knew about the Scientology link but this forum is about the Learjet 45 first and flying second. I'm really looking forward to the 707 actually. I flew in one as a passenger from Durban in South Africa to Harare in Zimbabwe in 1985.

Shared cockpit eh ? I normally don't get into multiplayers as I either fly myself or have someone sitting next to me in the cockpit. It is something I may get into in the future but building and maintaining the hardware and especially the software keeps me very busy.

I don't know anything about your situation other than you are in Melbourne. Are you going to go for a career in aviation or just happy to tinker? Are you considering building a sim or have a desktop setup ?

Have you had a look around the 'Hangar' with regards to the Lear or are you into all planes ?

Looking forward to your reply.

Cheers to you as well.

Hi Mark   I have been fascinated by Aviation for a very long time. I first flew in a Boeing 707 from Argentina to Los Angeles in 1970 with a change of planes in Panama city.  I have kept that passion and love alive and burning ever since.   I have many friends here in Melbourne that have partial B737-800 cockpits or full B737-800 housed in an original decommissioned B737-200 shell brought down all the way from Brisbane.

Personally I have built a sophisticated  multi screen desktop cockpit which I'm in the process of altering for the simple reason that it will allow me to change planes instantly which obviously can't be done with a fix unit.

I don't really fly that many planes maybe 2 or 3 at the most.  You see for a lot of people flight simulation is more or less a hobby or pass time and they talk about how many planes they got in the hangar but some of them are young kids with a gaming outlook or adults with little knowledge of aviation in general.

For me flying is a pathological obsession and has to be done properly whatever it takes.  to that extent  for the last few years I have invested thousand of dollars building an aviation library sourcing books from everywhere really which I use to study and as reference.

Simulation flying is not a hobby for me.  It gives me great pleasure in understanding the laws of nature and I do it to the best of my abilities.    By the way I do travel overseas regularly; my daughter works for Emirates and I fly almost for free.

Mark I would love to join you in your LJ 45  for a spin,  I live here in Greenvale literally around the corner from Melbourne Airport what about yourself?

Keep in touch please and thank you very much for your response.

Cheers  Joseph
