I haven't seen this discussion too much but based on the available interface hardware that is out there which is the better route to go, X-Plane 11 or Prepar3d?  I have Prepar3d 2.7 right now and haven't considered upgrading until my panels arrive.  But if I'm spending money again, just wondering which route is the preferred route.

Just seeing what everyone thinks.

Hi Steve,

I’m not aware of any of our members who are using X-plane.  If we have any please respond and give some insight using X-plane.   I seem to recall some parts of JET45 avionics package can interface with X-Plane but not all.  Jason, the developer of Jet45 may be able to answer those questions.

Now I can tell you the newer 64 bit version of Prepar3D  works well with Jet45 and continues to improve.  I have tested P3D up to version 4.1   The current latest release is up to version 4.3 released two days ago.

I can’t provide any insight on X-Plane as I’ve never used it and cannot say whether it is a good platform for our projects.  Going the route we are going in the Hangar  obviously leans heavily toward P3D as most members are using P3D.

The only negative issues I would see in using X-Plane would be the lack of complete interfacing capability with the Jet45 avionics package and the lack of members who have experience with X-Plane who can provide support if you have issues with interfacing X-Plane.  So if you go this route you are charting new territory.

Hope this information may help with your decision.

No worries.  I was just curious.  I'll end up with Prepar3d anyways.  I've used X-Plane in the past and liked what they were doing.  I'm holding out on buying the latest version until my backer panels come in.  Last time I purchased Prepar3d, 34 days later they came out with v3 and I couldn't get refunded or a upgrade to that version.  I don't want to get caught up in that.

Thanks again,

-Steve

Yeah good question regarding X plane. I've wondered as well if it would work, but I have invested so much in P3D, that I wont be changing anytime soon.

For everybody's information I am using P3D v 4.2 with no avionics issues to speak of. My issues have been more hardware and WideFS based. Nothing an app restart hadn't fixed.

P3D v4.3 as Shane had mentioned, will probably take awhile for me install. It is more detailed in installation requirements and you will have to reinstall all of your addons. I'm relatively happy as it is, so no urgent need to update yet.

Cheers
