Windows 10...

Gentlemen...

Windows 10 is here for good so it’s time for me to upgrade all my computers to proper OS before I start my interfacing journey.

We already established that upgrading from 7 to 10 without fresh install is not a good idea and I’m not sure if I can upgrade it using current key so possibly looking at downloading 10 and activating it for 27 bucks a piece using new key.

Is Home edition good enough for our project?

Hi Maciej,

Good question. I'm sure you've looked but here is Microsoft's comparison table.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/windows/compare-windows-10-home-vs-pro

If you look through the main differences it really seems to be if you have a business, with multiple users then Pro is better. That should not be your situation.

My sim setup uses 4 computers. Three win 7 and one Win 10 home. The win 10 communicates no problem with the others. If anything it can be some of the win 7 that gives more grief. My normal personal computer is Win10 and works fine.

So in MY OPINION  only, I have found the basic win 10 works fine.

I am open to any opposing views.

Cheers

Mark S.

I went with Pro as at the time I felt there was some advantage but I can’t remember why.

You definitly want Pro, because else you will be missing networking features like accessing shares on a networked PC!!
Indeed OEM licenses are cheap.

I have Windows 7 Pro on all three computers and for the most part, it works well once I got past the networking issues.  (Could have been user errors) LOL

I would spend the few extra bucks and go Pro with Windows 10 just in case there is a feature we need that Basic does not have.  It can't hurt to have Pro, but it might if we do not.

My personal experience with Windows 10 Pro has been much better than Win 10 Home. I have not faced any serious issues with it so far.

Hi @hunkaburninlove, I would recommend using Windows 10 Pro. Here is the complete guide that how you can able to get it.

I just recently upgraded my PC into Win 10 Pro, where it was Win 7 almost 3-4 years ago. The most incredible aspect of it is that some software is pre-installed on it. Otherwise, there are numerous appealing features available.
