A Short Christmas Read (A story by Will_S) Once upon a time, a few days ago, there was a young boy who was writing to Santa with his Christmas present wish list. He had decided, for this year, to put them in order from what he wants the most, to what he didn’t really want badly but hey, if it made it on to my wish list, its OK. He concentrated hard because he had only just learned to write, and to make a short list from all the things he wanted was very difficult. He held the pen really tight, it was very big in his small hands. Those same small hands were shaking with anticipation. He wanted the list to be really good and easy for Santa to read. He didn’t want Santa to bring just sock and jocks like earlier years. His wardrobe was full of all the socks and jocks he’d received from Santa for many years. Holding the pen with his shaking hand he pondered what he really really wanted.. “There’s That..” he mumbled to no one in particular. “Then there’s This..’” he trailed off “Then of course there is the Other Thing…” “Perhaps one of Those…” “Yes, That Too…” “I know, Two of Them…” ‘“This Too…” “Bother this is harder that it looks!” The boy kept on talking to himself. “And in what order do I put them…” ‘“First That, then This, then the Other Thing, then Those, followed by That Too, the Two of Them, and lastly This Too? No, how about “This in front, then perhaps the Two of Them, before Those, That next, preceding This Too, and I think That Too, then there is the Other Thing? “Or do I prefer…’ “Those first, This after, That comes next, now the Other Thing, Then in, with This Too, at the end I want Two of Them? “No I think I’d like… “This Too, That, the Other Thing, Two of Them, Those, This, and Them at last…’” The boy sat back and looked at what he had written on the paper. He looked confused. Which one was This? What was That? Can I use Two of Them? Do I really want This Too? Wouldn’t I rather That Too? Should the Other Thing be on the list at all? Why did I pick Them? How do I use Those? He thought… He pondered… He sang a song to distract his mind… He had a nap to rest his mind… He meditated to clear his mind… He tried really hard… But he still couldn’t decide. “Oh bugger it,…” He wrote: Deer Santa, Can I plees haf a….
