MSFS Multi Screen

Hi all,

This is a continuation of the thread from 'P3D demise ?' regarding setting up multi screens.

Part 1

I have come to a bit of a screeching halt with the multi screens as I come up against an infuriating bug. It maybe unique to me, so everyone's situation may turn out differently.

I have a unique setup as I do have one monitor for the main Windows/MSFS and three projectors. In order for that I need warping software to blend the three screens and that is Immersive Display by Fly Elise. The benefit is, the software, once you've calibrated the screens, will generate warping files for P3D and MSFS. The P3D files will warp the screens automatically, however my older version of Immersive display will give you a printout that needs to be manually added to MSFS. I think the latest versions may insert automatically but check yourselves first.

The issue I have is that the three screens, once added, are warped, with the printout data. All good, you are off and flying. However next time you start MSFS the screens can be changed around. you will have to manually add the data to the new screen positions. Not only that, when you add the three rendered screens from the Experimental tab of the General Screen and note the positions of each screen 1,2 & 3, your three screens will probably default to full Screen. there will be three dialogue boxes saying Full Screen. However once you get out of that menu then get back in again you may now see 6 dialogue boxes. 3 for Windowed and 3 for Full Screen.

You need to make sure, that I have noticed, that the 2 boxes for each screen should have the same values in.

It is easy to loaded MSFS to takeoff on a runway as it is easy to line up the three views. Just press Escape and then click on the General Options.

What if you don't have Warp software ? Well good luck and you may burn off several hours.

In General Options, choose Camera ( from memory) and scroll down to Zoom. You must get this right or you will be in all sorts. As an example my Warp software suggests for me a value of 67. Everyone may be different but there is a ball park for you. I think you need to look at your main monitor with the picture of the runway, if you have loaded that far, then look at your center screen, monitor or projector and adjust zoom so that the pictures look same.

More to come in Part 2 if I can work out why the screens change position.

Cheers,

Mark S.

Hi Mark,

You can see some of the issues I had. It's been a couple of months since I used MSFS2020.

There is a "Display Mode" choice in the Display/Graphics settings. If I remember correctly, the setting there is Full-screen or Windowed. The rendered screens should be the same.

I could never get the full screen to work properly so stayed with windowed.

Are the values provided by your software in degrees? The values provided in the rendered screens (from the General->Experimental settings) are relative to from 0 to 180 clicks from the center. The slider is poorly implemented (as are most sliders in MSFS) in there's is no "slow" mode. That leaves the number entry, which, I'm sure you found, has some unique idiosyncrasies. Again, as they are "relative" not absolute. Most difficult to align.

MSFS 2020 & 2024 technicians are more interested in "eye candy" for a game rather than a procedural flight simulator. The human interface seems to have been implemented by what is good enough to release the product on time. I believe that is why also many of the Asobo stock aircraft have issues.

I don't want to spend on expensive software so I didn't have some of your tools. But MSFS hasn't really been implemented as a procedural flight simulator. If you want to look, much of the hardware simulators offered (such as RealSimGear or Virtual Flight) use X-Plane for procedural training. It seems P3D is too expensive for commercial users.

It depends on what you want to do with your sim. I want to fly as I would in a real aircraft with checklists, procedures, navigation and ATC with departures/arrivals (SIDS/STARS) and especially approaches with ATC to an arrival airport. I also use an ATC package the provides VFR flights.
