Temporary L45 Seats by Project45

(Original thread started on 02-21-10 by Ron Rollo)

Over the weekend, I threw these temporary seats together so that I could meet my goal of flying by Sunday evening. Well, I did it and they don't look half bad. Keep in mind that as soon as I have the time and money, and nothing better to work on, I will be revisiting the seats and replacing these with a much higher quality and more realistic looking set of seats.

As it is, these seats have a seven inch front to rear travel and they also tilt back as one piece. Before it is all said and done, I will probably end up putting a set of armrest on these mostly for the experience of building a set so that I can develop ideas for the real seats.  Here are the pictures!

The base of the seats are screwed to the raised floor so they don't slide around and bump into the center pedestal. I also used Polly strips so that the seats will slide easier than on the raw MDF:

The backs of the seats were covered just so the wood is not showing. This looks nothing like the real L45, but it works for now!

I am not very good working with cloth materials and know I will have the replacements finished professionally. The hardest part was the column cut out notch!

I added a grab handle to help the pilots pull themselves forward. I actually used my wife to help me see what we need. I noticed that she was reaching, now there is something to grab!

My shell keeps getting smaller and smaller on the inside! If your a big guy, your not getting in here. If you do, your not getting out! There is a four hour class on how to get in and out of a small business jet, we will all need to take the class on this I think! The really scary thing is that these seats are under sized, wait til the full size seats and everything else is installed!
