Crew Warning Panel Discussion

Wanted to let you guys know that the Flight Line Simulations internally illuminated CWP is now available for orders. Here are a couple photos of the Crew Warning Panel installed in L45-002:

Eric, how much and how will it be interfaced?

Rand, there are some options in how the circuit is configured for each output card. The customer interfaces as they wish, but there is a CWP utility that's being tested that will be provided to simplify interfacing if you choose to use it. Pricing is available via email, because there are a few options available that may affect pricing.

 

After nearly taking down the simulator to a very bare-bones state for multiple hardware upgrades that have been waiting for install, I can finally show how well the new Flight Level CWP-G3 works. The unit is mounted to the MIP via the included 6-32 machine screws and even with the wire harness on the back, the MIP continues to sit as flush as it did prior to CWP installation, as there's a consistent .125"+ gap between the back of the MIP (on mine, Shane's, and Ron's simulators at least) and the front of the LCD screens, providing plenty of room for the wires.

 

Just wanted to let you know that 5 of the 6 planned CWPs have been accounted for. If you are interested in the 6th one for the FDS SYS card, then please contact me ASAP. Retail is $175 with $5.00 S&H in the CONUS.

I received my CWP from Eric a week back (nice piece of hardware Eric). I hadn't done anything with it until today. It took a while and a struggle but I eventually got all of the wires neatly routed side by side in the center of the CWP and taped them in place on the back. I can now mount it to the MIP and route the wires down between the two RMUs on the MIP and tape them in place. I have about 1-3/4" of space to work in between the RMU so I got the wires taped together 1-1/2" wide:

I have ordered an FDS-SYS4X board so when it comes I can light the CWP up like a Christmas tree!

 

I separated them out side by side and then taped the back of the CWP to keep them in place. See photo -- notice that I routed them toward the center so they would be the correct width when the exit the bottom:

This is a great shot of the CWP installed from the backside.  Everything has to be as flush as possible due to the LCD screen being right behind the MIP:

A few days ago Maciej was asking about how I attached the CWP to the aluminum MIP.  In my case, I used 8-24 post fasteners as you can see in this photo of the back side of my MIP:

The key is to keep thing as flush as possible becasue we have LCD screen directly behind the MIP.

 

Additionally, Eric Tomlin created a small program that helps interface the CWP to InterfaceIT.  Here are the custom Jet45 AAS offsets associated with Learjet45 annunciation lights:

The new Project45 v2.0 Crew Warning Panel is here!  And with that are a couple important changes that need to be brought to your attention.  First, get a good understanding of how the new CWP was designed and built by clicking HERE

The new v2.0 CWP is held in place using size #6 rivnut fasteners and #6 pan head screws.

This version will include four additional legends:

  • CABIN ALT
  • L BATT OVHT
  • R BATT OVHT
  • SPARE

These legends were not included in the earlier version of the CWP.  At the very least these legends will illuminate along with the others during a lights test.

With a little logic, the CABIN ALT will illuminate if certain conditions are met.  As an example:  "Altitude exceeds 10,00/14,500, depending on entered landing field elevation" or  "Cabin differential pressure greater than 9.9"  There may be other conditions which will require a little homework by a few of us.

The L/R BATT OVHT could trigger if we come up with a little logic.  From what I have been reading, if one  of the main batteries exceeds 70c, that battery will disconnect and the CWP L/R BATT OVHT indicator will illuminate.  The related battery switch can not be selected again until the battery has cooled to below 60C.  This is an example of some logic that will come much later in the software development, but at least we will have all the hardware in place when that time comes.

The SPARE legend will only illuminate during the lights test.  It crossed my mined to through something funny in there like "LOW COFFEE", but best if we didn't.

The new v2.0 CWP is made specifically to be used with two 9 inch LCD screens in place of the larger 15 inch Widescreen LCD in portrait mode.  One 9 inch LCD screen above the CWP for the Standby gauges and one 9 inch LCD screen below the CWP for the RMUs.  As you can see from the photo below, the new CWP falls behind the MIP making it impossible to continue using the single 15 inch LCD screen.

This solution will actually solve another issue we were experiencing with the single LCD screen in portrait mode.  For more information on the "LCD Monitors for the Center MIP" click HERE

The light spread and intensity of the light illuminating each of the legends is perfect!  This is made possible by the deeper Light Chamber that sets the LEDs further away from the back side of the lens.  Additionally a translucent paper filter is also used to help defuse and smooth the light.  This photo DOES NOT depict what is actually seen, but does gives you an idea of the brightness and shows there is no light bleed into neighboring light pockets.

How does it wire up and will there be any setup headaches?  Thanks to Jason Hite and his all inclusive Arduino module solution, all you will have to do is insure that the Arduino Nano on the CWP Module has been properly uploaded with the CWP hex file.  (More on that later when v2.0 Jet45 AAS is released)

The photo below of the CWP Module and the CWP shows that the only thing missing here are the three CWP wiring harnesses labeled "A', "B" and "C".  (There is also a small plug for the remote reset button/indicator LED)

The idea is once the CWP module is uploaded with the CWP hex file and wired properly to the CWP, it will just work!  No additional setup required.  You can find a copy of the Jet45 AAS Systems Modules v2.19  HERE  that provides the exact pin assignments of each of the plugs for the CWP and every other module in the Lear45 sim for that matter.

Jason just sent me this photo and I could not wait to share it with everyone.  He has been super busy with code writing and today he knocked out the Lights Test on the Crew Warning Panel!

This is the first time I have seen it fully lit up as well.  Notice this version lights up every indicator while the earlier version had a couple missing legends.  Awesome work Jason!
