Roel's Learjet 45 simulator

PreviousPage 5 of 18Next

Yes i did mount the templates, i did cover them with paper as seen on a previous photo, because i was afraid they would be covered in fiberglass ...which was the case 😉

I found actually really good cheap material for the templates, one side some sort of white plastic.

i think they are used as backside of a closet.

Yes i think that is the right plan to mount the templates while painting instead of the windows.

great tip!

I was planning to mount the actual window screens.

I was testing the CWP driver with an Arduino MEGA and Mobiflight.
This seems to work great!
I see i still need to replace some of the LED's , they aren't that bright anymore…;)

Hey Roel,

Very cool to see that you have a CWP that is working using Arduinos!  Very innovative work!

One thing that I see you will want to correct is the EMER BATT LED.  It should be a white LED.  All the others are red like you have as best as I can tell.  In the past we have used two LEDs to light up each legend.

I have a CWP DXF file if you want to take a look at it to see if you are on the money with the scale of yours.  My new design only uses one LED each, I may have to modify it though.  We also have a CWP interface program, but it is designed to be used with the FDS SYS cards.  I am not sure how much good it will do for you being that you are using the Arduino Mega card.

Great video and we are looking forward to seeing more of your innovative work!  We can all learn from what you are doing!

Hi Ron.

You are right, I saw EMER BATT is white in a real Lear45.

In the MIP I bought the CWP contains white LED lamps with a red panel painted black.

So I should replace the panel someday.

For now I am happy with it, but your DXF is very welcome!

Does the new interface driver still use FSUIPC?

If so I am happy ... 😀

I believe I can interface the entire sim with Arduinos and Mobiflight.

Except for the FMS I am not sure....

The FMS will use an Ardunio Nano to interface.  So you are good there.  I do believe that everything that we are moving forward with uses some FSUIPC interface.  So again, you should be fine!

It has been a while since I posted something here.
Summer vacation was here, and I had to work on my newly purchased sailing boat.
It was handy to have some fiber experience since I needed to close an old hole in the bottom of the boat where the motor used to come through the hull. 😉

Anyway….I began working on my Lear again.
All is painted in primer now and looks smooth...all though I keep spotting little imperfections! 😈
I decided to paint the exterior in nations pride , KLM colors.
There is no existing Learjet 45 with KLM livery, but I like the color scheme. 😉
Since there was a discount at my hardware store, I bought all the paint today.

Hey Roel,

Your Lear45 shell is looking incredible!  I know it has to be getting exciting for you now.  I am looking forward to seeing your shell in KLM colors.  Can't wait to see it!

As for finding imperfection, I know the feeling.  I have thought about resurfacing my shell, and I probably will if I ever have the opportunity.  And that opportunity would be taking it apart and moving it to another home. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.  Maybe one day.

Hi Roel,

Let me say well done for getting as far as you have.

I will give you some suggestions, as far as our build was concerned.

You have a lot of jobs coming up in populating the inside of the cockpit. I can tell you, unless you are a perfectionist, and have plenty of time, that I would not worry about any imperfections in the shell skin. Once you are in the shell and flying, the outside is totally irrelevant. It could be purple with flowers and rocket launchers, but you'd never know.

Next when people come to see your sim, they do notice the shell at a distance for a few seconds, but then focus on the inside. So if you are making it perfect for the visitors don't waste any precious time on it.

I have three projectors and I can tell you that the shell at the top of the nose reflects onto the screen. In my case I have black cloth draped across the top of the nose in front of the window to stop the reflection. That shouldn't be an issue with TV's so if you haven't thought about which way you are going with the visuals, give it some thought now.

KLM colours, that'll be nice. I can just picture that KLM 747 leaving St Martin's Princess Juliana airport now.

Cheers

Mark S.

Thanks for the comments guys!

glad to hear you guys also have imperfections 😉

But you are right, people including me will look at the interior.

But i guess i do have some perfectionism in me.

Mark has some really good points and is correct on all of them.  The question is:  Are you a perfectionist?  If so, you are screwed like me! LOL

One additional thing that I wanted to add is that if you do end up going with projectors, most all of the visual software programs allow you to "grab" the control points on the screen to manipulate way the image projects on your screen.  If you have a curved screen, this is a big help.  And if you have an object, like the front nose of your shell that you want to avoid projecting on, these control points within the visual software will help you overcome that problem.  Take a look at the first part of post #6 in this thread HERE

Just some more information to help you plan ahead.  Most every problem you will be facing has been seen and dealt with by someone in this forum.  Between us all, we can provide several possible solutions for you to choose from.
